Getting to Know Aromatherapy

Have you ever wondered why scented candles and incense became widely known?  Why does it have to be scented? Why the use of incense? What does it do anyway?  The answer is just one word - AROMATHERAPY.

The word aroma means scent and therapy means treatment.  So if you put it together, aromatherapy is using aromatic scents to improve your health.  These scents come from the essential oils that were extracted from plant parts -- roots, leaves, flowers or seeds.  It may sound like as if these essential oils need to be inhaled but the truth is, the essential oils can also be applied and massage on to your skin.  Does that sound heavenly? You bet it is! Just imagine how you would feel afterwards.

Long before incense and scented candles became famous, a lot of our ancestors have been using essential oils for therapeutic purposes. They are also used in cosmetics and perfumes and they play a big role in rituals, healing and hygiene.  In the market today, there are a lot of products like candles and lotions that are sold as aromatherapy products.  Be careful though.  Do you know that some of these products have synthetic fragrances instead of essential oils?  Synthetic fragrances do not have the same properties as the essential oils so better choose wisely.

Aromatherapy at Work

You may be wondering how one essential oil can have such a great impact on a person's physical, emotional and psychological well-being.  It got me thinking too. Do you know that our nose play an important role?  The nerves on our nose pick up the scent and send a message to our brain to trigger a reaction.  The parts of the brain that gets triggered are the storehouse for our memories and emotions.  The same parts control or influence one's physical and mental health.

Aromatherapy does wonders when treating hormonal, mental or emotional disorders.  With the right kind of scent or essential oil used, it can regulate your mood and trigger the right response.  Like for example, lavender essential oils are known for its calming effect and peppermint for that quick boost of energy.

That's not all.  Aromatherapy can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine to help treat insomnia, migraines and even as simple as common colds and flu.  Eucalyptus essential oil for example, can help relieve nasal congestion.  Aromatherapy can also be beneficial for people with anxiety, constipation, high blood pressure, pain, itching and psoriasis.
The truth is, there is a long list of essential oils and each has its own effects.  Once you get to know them, it's easier for anyone to select a scent based on the kind of effect you want to achieve.  It's easy to use but always use it with care.

Aromatherapy can be achieved by using scented candles (containing essential oils and/or natural fragrances), burning quality incense, using reed diffusers or aroma diffusers, or using an oil burner. You can find unique ranges of all of the above at our website. Be sure to choose the right scent for your symptoms.
